About

Low Carbon Ladock is a Community Benefit Society and was formed in 2010 in response to the Low Carbon Communities Challenge. “Transition Ladock & Grampound Road” was awarded a grant of £500k, one of only 22 community groups that were successful.

The purpose of Low Carbon Ladock is to improve environmental, social and economic conditions in Ladock and surrounding parishes. As a registered society, for the benefit of the community, the standard values are generally noted as:

  • social purpose over private gain
  • community empowerment
  • a binding commitment to reinvest all surplus profits back into the community rather than distributing them to individual members

Today Low Carbon Ladock look after a portfolio of 32 solar PV arrays across the parish, sited on the roofs of residential properties and community buildings. These solar panels generate free electricity for the home owners or tenants, and community groups, whilst Low Carbon Ladock look after the maintenance in return for the Feed in Tariff payments. The revenue generated covers the cost of maintenance and gets recycled back into the community via a range of projects.

After 15 years of being almost entirely focused on energy generation and conservation, Low Carbon Ladock are now turning their attention to the matter of Community Resilience. This topic covers a surprisingly wide area, to include social resilience, economic resilience, and environmental resilience, infrastructure resilience, and governance resilience.
